Brand new shiny telephone... VoIP
Voice over Internet Protocol is finally getting the attention of SME's.
Currently, 25 per cent of small businesses in the UK are using VoIP and this is growing daily. In March 2007, new research commissioned by BT Business, said 48 per cent of small businesses will be using VoIP services by March 2008.
The lower cost and convenience of VoIP are the main reasons businesses give for adoption.
VoIP lets you make telephone calls over the Internet using your broadband connection, avoiding public-switched telephone charges. Using an easy to use online control panel, via a web browser, you can operate your own local phone exchange (PBX) to manage extension numbers and call groups.
There are three main elements to a VoIP service:
1. A VoIP-enabled telephone - This can be an all-in-one handset, or a normal handset plugged into an adaptor, or a softphone: a computer program that uses a microphone and headphones attached to your computer to emulate a real handset.
2. An Internet connection - A leased line or ADSL/cable broadband is ideal; a dial-up or satellite internet connection will most likely cause a reduction in sound quality.
3. A virtual PBX account - with a VoIP service provider. This gives you a VoIP external number: which is what other people dial to call you.
In addition to providing all three of the above, E247 also advise on, specify, install and configure bespoke VoIP systems for SME's.
You might be a 'one man band' who wants to be flexible with where you work. You want your phone number to follow you - not the other way round.
You could be a small 3 person company that wants different numbers going to different people, in different places.
You may be 30 staff strong looking for a very bespoke set-up, as some employees work from home, some from the office, and others out on the road.
No problem. We provide solutions for all kinds of scenarios. Give us a call on 0845 060 3247 to discuss your situation - who knows, it may be the last landline call you make! |
